Van Scott Nienow, 78, of Cottage Grove, MN, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Regions St. Paul Hospital with his daughters by his side after a courageous battle against cancer. Van was born November 20, 1944 in Merrill, son of the late Ralph ‘Flash’ and Adeline ‘Addy’ (Krueger) Nienow. Owner of Van S. Nienow Ent. Inc Electrical Engineer & Expert Witness Consulting Firm. Van was born and raised in Merrill, WI where he later married, moved to St. Paul, MN to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering and start his own family. He graduated from Merrill High School in 1962 and North Central Technical Institute of Wausau in 1966 with an Associate Degree in Industrial Technology with an Electrical major. Much of Van’s personal time was spent in the outdoors, canoeing & spending time with friends & family. His greatest accomplishment was his home he built from a one bedroom to a large, impressive home with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Along with the fancy amenities and gadgets he invented for his home. He was a mix of Beethoven, Van Gogh & Einstein. His passion for collecting, restoring and beautifully playing pipe organs, to his creative knowledge and mindset inventing, building and/or fixing almost anything and everything. Family & Friends was his foundation of life and he valued the time he spent with them. Van took great pride in raising his three daughters and later in life was a loving grandparent. Proceeded in death by parents Ralph “Flash” & Adeline (Krueger) Nienow. Siblings Lance & Kim Nienow. Survived by his daughters, Veronica (Juan) Salas of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Valerie Krogerson of Woodbury, MN and Velinda (Derek) Anderson; four grandchildren, Kaylee, Joseph, Venecia, and Valentina; and siblings, Clark (Jan) Nienow of Appleton, and Nancy Nienow, Craig (Jeanne) Nienow, Brian (Sandy) Nienow, and Todd Nienow all of Merrill. Public visitations will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 3rd, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, WI. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Pastor David Szeto will officiate. Burial will take place at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
